I go to New York City every few months on business and I enjoy visiting "the Big Apple". New York City is a large vibrant metropolitan center filled with a huge multinational population and offering countless opportunities for entertainment and cultural diversions. It is also a crowded city teeming with traffic and a very expensive place to live. A common remark that is often heard in the USA regarding New York City is, "A great place to visit but I would not want to live there".

I certainly understand that sentiment. I love visiting New York City. The sights and sounds of this huge metropolitan complex are stimulating. Times Square is more lively and awake at midnight than most city centers are at noon. There are hundreds of theaters offering musical and cultural diversions. There are thousands of restaurants offering an endless variety of meals. There are countless sights and sounds to be appreciated.

Nevertheless, I would not want to live in the Big Apple. The cost of living is horrendous. Aparments in Manhattan sell for astronomical prices. Rents in Manhatttan are higher than anywhere else in the USA. It is true that wages are also very high in the city, but most people must endure long commutes to and from work just so they can live in a semi affordable apartment or house. In addition, the pace in New York is often frenetic. Everyone seems to work long hours at fevered pitches. I love to tap into this frenzied excitement for a few days and to absorb the energy of the big city, but then I love to go home and relax once again.
