My India Visit:Incredible Kerala

Kerala is probably one of the greenest places in India with the highest rate of literacy, truly said. In the month of July I planned a tour to Kerala with my family.
It was a tour of 10 days. When I reached there I realized that Kerala has got a lot of unique reasons to be called a paradise. A pleasant climate, sun kissed beaches, backwaters, hill stations, exotic wildlife, breathtaking waterfalls, Ayurvedic health holidays, enchanting art forms, magical festivals, historic cities and temples.

The city which we saw in Kerala was Kochi (Cochin), the commercial and industrial capital of Kerala. It has one of the finest natural harbours in the world. It is now Kerala's commercial center. The Backwaters extend east and south of the harbour and contain tiny islands.

We reached at 9.00 in the morning, boarded the hotel. The reservation was done by our tour operator. It was a lovely hotel. After resting for sometime we went for our first destination. It was Kumarakom -which is a famous unique backwater destination and is also famous for the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary which is a renowned bird watching centre. Kumarakom is also a centre for houseboat cruises. Next we headed for the Dutch Palace-originally built by the Portuguese .Here we had the famous Keralian food and moved for Jewish Synagogue which is the oldest synagogue in India built by the prosperous Jewish community.

Apart from this there was the St. Francis Church built Portuguese and is the India's oldest European church. Then there was a visit to Thekkady famous for unending chains of hill and spice and tea scented plantations where in the crisp, cool air of the Western Ghats we experienced the most enchanting tour. It is also famous for the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the best in the country for watching and photographing wild life.

Then we came to most exciting visit to the Kovalam Beach which is one of the best beaches in India. It's a must see destination of India and have facilities of safe sea bath. The beach is bordered with low cost lodging houses, and restaurants which offer facilities, at affordable tariffs. This was the end of our expedition to Kerala.

Duration of stay of tourists and its significance in Ilandudno

Total tourist traffic to B&B Llandudno can be described as a function of two variables namely: the number of visitors and the average stay of the visitors. Notably, the number of tourists visiting a country need not always be the norm for the assessment of a country’s tourism traffic. It is the length of stay and the consequent tourist spending during their stay at a destination that will have an important implication for the country’s economy as also for its balance of payments.

Normally, an increase in the average length of stay is an indication of a healthy market situation. If the average stay of a tourist in Hong Kong is three compared to that of India (28.4 days), surely India is deriving greater economic benefit from tourism. According to the survey undertaken by the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) it was found that as much as 24.2 percent of the foreign tourists’ stayed in India for an average period of more than 28 days.

What is more important is that this average is registering an increase, howsoever small it may be. For example, the average length of stay of foreign tourists was 28.4 days in 1984. This was more than the average of 27.3 days during the year 1983. In recent times things have undergone a major change. With the liberalization of the Indian economy and the fast march of the globalization forces, more and more people are now visiting and staying in the country.

The visitors from India and other countries to Ilandudno have increased significantly in recent times. The refusal of the UK government to join the European Union (EU) and the immigration friendly approach of the UK administration have resulted in a large number of Indians and people from other countries moving into UK. Even then, for students and other short term visitors visiting UK for trade and commerce or even for short term courses, it is the high exchange value of the British pound and the subsequent high earnings that is proving as an attraction.

Tradition of Thrissur

Thrissur is a city situated in central Kerala state, India. It is the headquarters of Thrissur District. It is known as the 'cultural capital of Kerala'. The city is also a major financial and commercial hub. It is famous for the Thrissur Pooram (festival) and has a large number of well-known temples. Till early 1990s it had been officially called Trichur, which was its English name given since the British colonial period. Thrissur has traditionally been a centre of learning. With the decline of Buddhism and Jainism due to the growing supremacy of Brahminism during the revival of Hinduism, Thrissur became an important centre of Sanskrit learning. It is believed that the great Hindu saint, Adi Shankara, was born in answer to the prayer made by Arayambal and Sivaguru at Vadakkunnathan temple. Sankara's disciples Hastamalaka, Thotaka, Padmapada and Sudhachara established four Madoms in the city, namely the Northern Madom, the Middle Madom, the In-Between Madom and the Southern Madom, respectively. Thrissur had been visited by other religious icons like Swami Vivekananda and St. Thomas. Sree Narayana Guru, who fought against the caste system in Hindu religion, founded his first temple in Koorkanchery. In 1790, Raja Rama Varma, popularly known as Sakthan Thampuran, ascended the throne of Cochin. Raja Rama Varma re-built Thrissur from destruction after attacks from Tipu Sultan's army, clearing the magnificent teak forest around the Vadukunathan Temple. Sakthan Thanpuran is hence known as the architect of Thrissur town. For a brief period, Thrissur was the capital of the Kochi kingdom and gained prominence. The Shaktan Thampuran palace was the abode of the Cochin king. Sakthan Thampuran shifted his residence to Thrissur because of its salubrious climate and for safety from the depredations of the naval powers of the West. Sakthan Thampuran settled several Syrian Christian families in the town from their business centres in adjoining areas. Soon Thrissur was built into a flourishing centre of internal trade in Kerala. Thrissur has played a significant part in the political history of South India. During the Civil Disobedience Movement of 1921, several people from the city took active part and courted arrest. Thrissur district can also claim the honour of having been in the forefront of the countrywide movement for temple entry and abolition of untouchability.
