I believe your itinerary and your expenses are reasonable.

Here are a few observations on your expenses: If you rent a car in New York and leave it in San Francisco, the rental company will charge you a "drop-off fee". That charge can be vey high, perhaps $500 to $1000 extra. Make sure you check on the price of all the fees with the rental company. You can find hotel rooms at $100 per night in most cities, but the price in New York City will probably be nearly $200 per night. If you stay in hotels outside of the cities, you can sometimes find nice hotels for $75 or even $50 per night. In the big cities near the center, they will usually be more expensive.

Your itinerary is possible, but it will require much driving. As you cross the Midwest, there will not be many interesting things to see, just long hours of driving through miles and miles of corn fields. In the southwest, there is much to see, and you will not have time enough to see most of it. Many people living in the US, would prefer to rent a car in the East, drive around and see the attractions, then take an airplane to the West, rent another car, and drive around to see the attractions. This is usually less expensive and less tiring, plus it allows more time to see the interesting attractions.

Hello first please excuse my english I'm from Romania. Me and my wife plan to visit USA at the end of from 25 april to 25 may 2010. We was close to do this this year but the financial crisis has stroke serious our budget. The next year we will do this for sure. I expect from you some advices regarding the expenses and what to do... first the expenses. and then the Route. I estimate this:

1800 Euro ~ 2286 USDRent a car for 30 days with full insurance = 2673 USDAccomodation 2 persons one room ~ 100 USD/ 1day x 30 days= 3000 USDDifferent expenses 100 USD/day x 30 days = 3000 USD

Total estimated cost: 10959 USDMoney for emergency situations = 3000 USD

Total need of money = 13959 USD
