    Food, Wine, and Beer Festivals

Last fall I attended a local Tucson, Arizona food and wine festival. If you get the opportunity to attend a food and wine event in a city you are visiting I highly recommend it.  Restaurants from all over the city bring anywhere from one to several dishes off their menu for attendees to sample. Wineries from all over the country attend and some local breweries offer samples of their beer.

Attending such events are a terrific way to "taste the city" and meet people from the area. The festivals are held year-round and vary depending upon the city. Some events are held outdoors and others are held in large convention hall or expand through several hotel conference rooms. The tickets cost between $45-85 and up. The cost includes all of your food, beverages, and usually a souvenir wine glass or beer mug.

I found some 2008 festivals and listed them below.

April 12 - Food and Wine Festival in Palm Springs, California and the same weekend is the Texas Hill Country Wine & Food Festival.

June 28th - Boulder (Colorado) Food & Wine Festival.

October 9-11th - Great American Beer Festival in Denver (visitors enjoy one-ounce beer samples).
November 15th - Northwest Food & Wine Festival in Portland, Oregon.

November 14-18th - San Diego Bay Wine and Food Festival

If you have ever attended such a festival please share your thoughts. I'd love to hear about other food and wine festivals through out the country.

In Seattle we love our Food and Drinks!

The Bite of Seattle is our big food festival.  It's held at Seattle Center every year.  It's a great way to try a variety of foods from some of Seattle's fine and casual restaurants.

In September, the neighborhood of Fremont celebrates Oktoberfest.  At the time of this posting, their site still has information for 2007.  But it will have the info for 2008 closer to the date!

Throughout the summer months neighborhoods in Seattle will hold their own community festivals.  You can choose from a couple of festivals any given weekend.  And every festival features food booths and a beer/wine garden.  You can get some great souveniers by local artists at craft booths.  And hear live music from local bands.  If you find yourself in Seattle during the summer, be sure to check out a festival.  It's a great way to get the Seattle experience with the locals.

Here's a list of festivals from the City of Seattle.  http://www.seattle.gov/html/VISITOR/festival.htm

Some of my favorites for eating at are the Ballard Seafood Festival, Bellevue Arts Museum ArtsFair, Bite of Seattle, Bumbershoot (huge music festival), Capitol Hill Block Party, Fremont Fair and West Seattle Summer Fest.

I lived in Sausalito CA for a few years and we had a fantastic Chili and Beer Festival every spring. The best Chili I ever tasted. I still think about tying in a trip back to San Fran to coincide with the festival.

If you are ever in the area and get a chance to go to the festival I highly recommend it!

    Hi Mark,

What a great suggestion!  It's particularly good for visitor coming from outside of the states.  What better way to get a taste of U.S. culture than with something as American as chili?

    Thanks for sharing!
