I visited Las Vegas last week. Sin city is still the same glamorous, glitzy, over-the-top entertainment capitol as always. It is, however, slowly evolving as the casino owners learn newer, more sophisticated ways to extract the excess money from our wallets and purses. The big winners are the non-gambling visitors to Vegas. They can take advantage of the many free entertainments, the inexpensive dining and the numerous other free promotions offered by the casinos in an attempt to attract you to their slot machines and gaming tables.

Stratosphere tower that rises over 1000 feet (more than 300 meters) above the Las Vegas Strip, has added another amusement to its rooftop (or pinnacle top) venue. It already sported the worlds highest roller coaster. Its not that big, but it is located over 1000 feet from the ground. Now it installed a giant seesaw that tilts you out over the edge of the roof and dangles you more than 1000 feet above the streets of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas continues to evolve back into an adult-only entertainment center. Gambling is the king. All of the casino gaming rooms and bars are off limits to anyone under 21 years of age unless accompanied by an adult. More and more of the shows are once again becoming the topless risque spectacles that made old Las Vegas famous as the male dominated center. There are less and less family oriented activities in Vegas. Only Circus Circus offers primarily family entertainment.

Las Vegas is becoming the town for fine dining. It still has its signature all-you-can-eat buffets for the bargain hunting visitor, but it also has over a dozen five star restaurants with more world class chefs opening establishments every month.

If you want to see the rich and famous, I hear that the Hard Rock Cafe is the place to go. The swimming pool at the Hard Rock attracts many of the beautiful people.

Last week, the world poker tournament was being held at Binyon's in downtown Las Vegas. It was open to the public for free. Downtown Vegas is still the hangout for the serious gamblers. It is not as glamorous as the newer lower strip with all the fabulous new casinos. Downtown is a bit older and a bit less spectacular, but it is the preferred gambling venue for the serious gamblers.
