    Texas Hill Country

Hi all, first timer here so hopefully I get things right!

After travelling from San fran to Las Vegas via Yosemite & Death Valley and running in to a group of Scots lads who were renting Harleys, my friends & I who are all bikers have decided to do something similar. Rather than do an extended tour our intentions are to stay at a central point and have 'days out' on the bikes. We were thinking of Texas for our trip but my wife & I have just returned from there and I have to say that the landscape didn't strike me as being particularly interesting for riding. (Apologies if I upset any Texans!!!). We travelled from Lubbock to Abilene & on to Dallas, and I realise that the landscape there may not be the same elsewhere. If we did bike it we were thinking of staying around the San Antonio area, and day tripping to places like Bandera, New Braunfels, the Alamo, and so on. I understand this is classed as Hill Country, so I'd be grateful for any info as to whether it would be suitable for such a trip or not. We're all in our 50's so are looking for scenery and places of interest, rather than things like stunning nightlife!

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Re: Texas Hill Country

You have been in West Texas.  That is certainly not the most scenic part of the state.  People often say that West Texas has one thousand miles of nothingness.  There is a bit more scenery in Eastern Texas.  The area north of San Antonio is known as the hill country and it has rolling hills and shallow river valleys:  It has a distinct *German heritage, so you can still find apple strudel along with Texas barbeque:

If you want to ride your bikes in spectacular scenery; you should consider Arizona or Utah.  You could rent Harley Davidsons in either Las Vegas or Phoenix;  Consider staying in Sedona Arizona, one of the most spectacularly scenic places in the USA.  From there, you could ride to the Grand Canyon, to old route 66, to Monument Valley and several other fantastically scenic locations
